The National Foster Care Coalition: Lessons Learned and Recommendations for the Child Welfare Field

For almost two decades, the National Foster Care Coalition played a critical leadership role in foster care reform, and in the spring of 2017 the Coalition’s board decided to close its doors due to financial restraints. It contracted with ChildFocus to explore the Coalition’s key contributions and challenges and share recommendations on how future coalitions might address the need for information sharing, networking, and advocacy on child welfare issues. The final lessons learned report was disseminated widely and serves as an important analysis of the strengths and limitations of coalitions, and future considerations for coalition building in the child welfare field.
